The "Russian Design" Contest
"Russian Design", an international contest of piece-by-piece design, is a project of SALON-PRESS Publishing House.Preamble to the project
Design is something that can be considered from different points of view as a technology, a function, a piece of art, an instrument, an esthetic choice or style. Design and manufacturing of furniture and interior articles are positioned somewhere between industrial design and architecture. Architect and designer are professions historically closely related. But in spite of the fact there are many unique architects in Russia, whose names are known outside the country, the contemporary Russian design conceptions are poorly integrated into the international sphere of commerce and manufacturing. At the same time, foreign manufacturers that are interested in the perspective Russian market, aspire to find ideas that would reflect Russian mentality.SALON-PRESS Publishing House, an expert in the sphere of design and architecture, is well-acclaimed by manufactures and designers of furniture and interior articles. The “Russian Design” Contest organized by SALON-PRESS will attract attention of manufactures, design specialists, and will help them to build a basis for perspective partnership.
Purposes of the Contest
Participants
We invite Russian designers working in the sphere of piece-by-piece design and architecture, as also students of profile higher education institutes. There is no age limitation for participants.Participation
Free participation. All candidates should forward their application to the organizing committee not later than October 27, 2008. You can fill an application.Requirements
For competition we accept sketches made in modern stylistics and involving latest design technologies. We expect works combining innovative ideas, carefully executed and practicable. The project can present any piece of furniture and interior.The use of new materials and technologies is advisable, but is not a must. Works have to be specified for industrial manufacturing.
Works satisfying technical specifications will be considered for "CoffeeArt" nomination. Participants are to create a project of a mini coffeehouse. Reception of works
Works are received till 15 of October 2008 on any electronic carrier in graphic format, 3D Max is desirable. Works made in 3D Max can be sent till 25 of October 2008. Also acceptable are hand-made sketches or professional photos of created objects.
Exposition will be presented at the exhibition in A1 format.
All works that have passed preliminary selection will be exhibited, projects of the winners will be published in specialized periodicals and issues, etc.
Jury
The contest jury is formed from representatives of the world's leading periodicals on the interior topic, foreign manufacturers of furniture and interior articles, under the auspices of SALON-PRESS.The international jury will choose the winner of the contest "Russian Design".
Awards Ceremony
The projects exhibition and award ceremony will take place in the framework of The Moscow International Salon Interior Show 2008 to be held in the Central Exhibition Centre “Manege” on 26-29 of November 2008.Prizes
Winners who take first, second and third places are presented with Certificates of the winner and valuable prizes. Contracts with foreign manufacturing companies are expected. The winner of the special nomination “CoffeeArt” gets a prize from the partner of the Nespresso Porsche Design and also a contract for project manufacturing.You can get extra information about the contest
